Exclusive Interview with George Honeyman...

In the latest issue of A Love Supreme, on sale Saturday 17 February before the home match against Brentford, we speak to Sunderland academy product and first-teamer, George Honeyman.

In this exclusive interview, George reveals some fascinating insights into his career at Sunderland, a club at which he has spent 14 years of his life.

As well as detailing his breakthrough into the first team, Honeyman sheds light on what the dressing room was like at Sunderland during the club’s lowest points on and off the pitch.

On trying to stake a place in the first team:

“It’s an absolute killer because when there’s such a quick changeover of managers, and with our club constantly fighting relegation, the first thing the manager does when he comes in, 99% of the time, is look for experienced players. He isn’t gonna chuck in kids when he’s been in charge for a week.”

On the fans singing his name at Wolves away:

“It was pretty special... just a few seconds of them singing my name made me feel ten feet tall...which is quite an achievement for me!”

On his relationship with Lee Cattermole:

“I’m really good friends with Lee. We car share in, and I love feeding off him, feeding off his energy. I’m very lucky to have him around.”
