ROEFS NEW DEAL

Robin Roefs is the latest Sunderland player to extend his stay on Wearside, signing a new contract running until 2031.

In his debut Premier League season, the 23-year-old earned 10 clean sheets in 35 games. His impressive performances earned him Sunderland’s 2025-26 Men’s Young Player of the Season award, while he was also nominated for the Premier League Fan Team of the Season and Premier League Microsoft Goalkeeper Performance of the Season.

Roefs also gained recognition on the international stage, making his Netherlands debut in June before receiving a callup for the 2026 World Cup.

Florent Ghisolfi, said: “We are very pleased that Robin has committed his future to Sunderland until 2031. He had a strong first season with us, but what we value just as much is his humility, his willingness to work and his desire to keep improving every day. These qualities reflect the identity and the standards we want to build at this Club. Robin is proud to represent Sunderland, and we are equally proud to have him with us. He is an important part of this team and of our future, but we all know there is still a lot of work ahead of us. We want to keep progressing together, with ambition and humility.”

Roefs added: “Sunderland has felt like home from the moment I arrived. Last season was incredible, finishing seventh and qualifying for Europe, but we all feel there’s so much more to come from this squad of players, so we’re now focused on what’s next. I’m really excited about playing my part in the bright future of this football club.”
