Before the season had started many journalists and rival fans had us as one of the three teams to go down. These shouts added more fuel to the fire and provided the lads with a chance to prove the doubters wrong which is exactly what we have done. Regis has always said he never set any targets for the group, he just wants to see us go as far as we can. Our impressive start has even led some pundits, including Wayne Rooney, to call RLB the manager of the season so far and you can’t argue otherwise.
CLOSING IN ON 40 POINTS
"We have tough challenges ahead, I think its really clear, for example Brighton then after that we have Leeds at home so we know that we have to fight for every point in this league. So far, it’s went well but we never know."
SURPASSING EXPECTATIONS?
"I told you before, I didn’t set any limit or specific objective before because we were new in this league, with 14 new signings, so we have something to discover everyday so if we fix a limit before we can underestimate the level of the squad. So, for the festive period it will be exactly the same. We might say that our level will drop but we are not sure, we will see because the players who will be involved in this period. I repeat, the training really well, I think they have good qualities, it will be a different team but the principles will be the same."
ROONEY CALLING RLB MANAGER OF THE SEASON SO FAR
"Yeah, and he won against us! It was a tough game, I remember. We played well the first half, but we struggled during the second half. At the end of the game, we spoke a bit and it’s still really positive for a new manager in England to have this kind of conversation with a legend. I’m so happy for the club and happy for the coaching staff and me as well to have this statement."
PROVING DOUBTERS WRONG
"So far, I think we are doing well but it’s always a new story, so we are excited but this period with the right level of desire ambition and we know as well that it’s really fragile because it is so tough. So, it’s a new challenge and I think we love new challenges and especially when they are tough."
