Regis Le Bris looked ahead to Saturday's trip to Molineux and spoke about putting right the problems we saw in our previous match...
WOLVES ALREADY DOWN
“They have had a difficult season, it is obvious, especially away from home because they have had good results recently at home - Arsenal, Villa, Liverpool… even against Tottenham the game was tight. So they know now what will be the next challenge and they are trying to generate momentum and good vibes for the next season. It is still important to finish properly. They are playing with mental freedom and they are still dangerous, that is clear, and are well-organised with good players. This is the Premier League, you can have a difficult season but you still have quality.”
ANGULO/TRAORE/TA BI/MUNDLE
“We have had this period with four natural wingers (Angulo, Traore, Mundle, Ta Bi) out at the same time. Three of them should be available soon. Jocelin probably this weekend, and we will make the decision for Bertrand and Nilson if they are available for this weekend or the weekend after. They are on the edge and are in a good place.”
WINGERS TO PROVIDE A SPARK
“They have the profile expected for this position, so it’s important. Everyone watched the Champions League for example and I think the forwards have this ability to change the game. Without them we try to find other options but it is not easy, so I hope they will help, but at the same time they haven’t played for a long period. It is hard to expect immediately a big improvement but I hope they will help because they have this ability to threaten the opponent 1v1, go in behind, cross, and combine in tight areas. If it is quick then it’s better, but sometimes you have to wait.”
PLAY FRINGE PLAYERS OR STICK WITH FIRST CHOICE?
“For me, we are in the same position as the first game of the season. We want to play every game with the best 11, 16, 20 players available for the team sheet and this is my mindset. It doesn’t change after the 40 point target, now 46 and we never know what will happen at the end of the season.”
END OF SEASON AIM
“It is hard to say because every game is different. I just want to focus on the next challenge. It is important to react, to bounce back and to show different behaviours and consistency as well as a team. We will see because we can’t control the opponent, it is still unpredictable and the game goes in different ways. I expect mostly different behaviours from the squad and we will see.”
IS EUROPE A MOTIVATOR?
“It’s hard to say because we are ambitious but it is important to stay humble. If you start dreaming then maybe you can drift a bit with the standards - it’s just enough to be on the pitch and we will beat Forest, for example! I don’t know if we had these ideas in our minds, but that is the process. For us, the lesson from the previous games we played against Villa - semi-final of the Europa League - and then Forest - semi-final of the Europa League - and we conceded nine goals and achieved 0 points. That means something about our level at the minute, it doesn’t mean that was the level for the rest of the season, but it is what it is. We have to stay humble. The next challenge is to win and to be competitive. If we can win then we will have three more points and we will see on the table what that means. After that, we will have another game and so on.”
DON’T LET THE SEASON FIZZLE OUT
“I think the players’ reaction was positive, they are alive. It was really clear, sometimes you can feel that it is the end of the season during training sessions, the energy. They might be exhausted, it has been a long season, especially their first one in the Premier League and we still have a really young squad, but I don’t think this is the case. We will have a strong reaction soon.”
