Regis Le Bris spoke after our final preseason game, saying he wasn’t too happy with the first half performance but was pleased with how we responded after the break. He also provided a brief update on Thomas Meunier and says he is looking forward to the new season.
SUMMARY OF TODAY
“A good second half I would say. Rennes are a good team, as expected, good with the ball, good under pressure. I think the first half wasn’t aggressive enough and I think during half time it was clear that we needed to lift the intensity. It’s important with the Premier League restarting next week to have this idea in our mind, when we are not aggressive it’s hard to impose something. When we are aggressive it’s totally different and I think our second half was good and probably in line with our standards but not the first one.”
GOOD PRESEASON
“It’s been a good preseason overall because I think that the mindset is really good but when we play preseason games it’s not the reality of the competition, so it’s always connected with mixed teams, preparation and so on. It was important to experience this situation this afternoon. It’s a good reminder about the level expected in the Premier League and I appreciated that the lads switched on in the second half to show that these are our standards and, from that point, we can be Sunderland.”
MEUNIER
“We don’t really know yet but it's back pain, so we’ll assess the situation next week.”
SEASON STARTING SOON
“I’m happy because the Premier League is so exciting and we’re looking forward to it. It was a long preseason, I think we worked well, but the competition is so important, so demanding. We are looking forward to it now.”
FANS AT THE SOL
“It’s a small taste. They appreciate it, I think, to be connected with the squad once again. The stadium is a special place and we’re looking forward to living another season with them and to connect and to leave different emotions.”
