Regis Le Bris shared his thoughts following Sunderland's 2-0 victory in France.

BUILDING GOOD FOUNDATIONS

“We are building our foundations for a big season, one of the most exciting challenges for Sunderland in 50 years. Layer by layer, step by step. I think it was a good game this afternoon with good control. We tried to press high to be able to manage their buildup, and I think it worked well, our buildup under pressure was interesting as well, and finally we found the solution to score which is always important. Winning games is our job so today is another step forward but we still have more to do.”

SQUAD DEPTH

“Our World Cup players are now back and are joining the group. I told the lads at the beginning of pre-season that it was important to start before they joined the group, and they did. So now, the connection is really positive because the core of the group from the beginning of pre-season is already in good shape and the new lads are joining with freshness and quality. It’s positive for the future.”

MUKIELE AND ALDERETE MISSING

“They got minor injuries, Omar during the World Cup so just a bit stiff and it’s important to take care of him before a big season, and Nordi got a minor injury at the end of the game against Wrexham. They should be available for the start of the season but it’s the same - we have a long season coming up so it’s important to take care of them and be safe.”

NO COMPLACENCY

“It’s really important but we can feel the energy of the squad, which is really good. It is impossible to be complacent or to waste time in this league, especially at Sunderland with this big challenge ahead. I think the lads are totally aware of the challenge and they are working hard. It won’t be perfect because that is never the case, but the energy, the togetherness, our connection with the fans, here we have our pillars. If we keep building on these foundations we’ll have good results, for sure.”
