Regis Le Bris praised last night's opponent for their impressive display at the SoL and says he's proud of the Lads for maintaining their unbeaten home run for as long as they have. Playing the league leaders and then the defending champions in the space of four days was always going to be a monumental task, and it won't be these results which define our season ultimately.
HAPPY WITH THE HOME RECORD
"Yeah, I want to take the positive - to have that record was outstanding. It's done and now we want to keep this place hard to play and I think that will be the case for the future as well. I think we showed it this evening. It wasn't easy for Liverpool to win here, so it's the most important thing for me. We want to be brave, we want to be intense, we want to be hard to play, and it was the case. After that, the result is the result. You can't control everything."
NEED TO KEEP GOING
"We have to keep the same mentality. The journey in the Premier League, especially for a newly promoted side, it's not easy. It's normal to struggle at times, especially against the best teams in this league. Resilience is key, and I think so far we showed that we have this quality. It has been a good sequence of home results this season. We want to win points, and the mentality of the squad has been excellent. We are learning fast, and we have to go through difficult experiences. Tonight’s experience will be useful for the future.”
ANGULO FIRST START
"The gap in the Premier League is big, so it's still important to give him time and support. I think he showed good quality at times with the ball and good composure. He had the opportunity to attack the box three or four times. Now he needs to learn."
LIVERPOOL WERE IMPRESSIVE
“We felt their quality quite clearly. They were composed even with second balls and when it was tight they have this ability to combine and secure the first touch and combine in tight spaces. They are good when you aren’t really close to them as you can’t gain possession. If you fix that problem then they just give you another one.”
FINE MARGINS
“They were good, mature and smart. They are experienced, the first half was a bit tough because we didn’t find the right position to be close to duel them. We sat, we wasted a bit of energy during this part. It was a bit better in the second half but they scored from a set-piece and small margins define this kind of game. We tried, we were brave (with our pressing) but they have this ability to go long and keep the ball and probably this part we spoke during half-time it was really important when we locked on man-to-man to win the first contact, but it wasn’t the case. We take risks as it was three-v-three at the back and we knew they’d be dangerous.”
TOUGH SCHEDULE
"It is what it is: I repeat, four days after Arsenal, we had to go again against a monster. We showed a great character, a great identity, but it wasn't enough.”
