Alan Browne joined Middlesbrough on loan from Sunderland during our busy Summer transfer window and following Boro's recent 4-0 win over Southampton, the Teesider's boss, Kim Hellberg, has heaped the praise on Alan Browne for his contributions as he filled in at right back following an injury that occurred during the game. Despite being a midfielder, due to a lack of options, Browne was called upon from the bench to slot in at the back after only six minutes had been played to replace an injured Alex Bangura. Coming in from the bench can be a challenge, especially when it happens so early and you're in an unfamiliar position but Browne handled it well and turned in a performance that impressed his new gaffer, he even chipped in with a goal to top it off!
UNBELIEVABLE
“He was good. It’s unbelievable to do what he did for us. That was so difficult, especially against that player [Léo Scienza]. It's a quick player, a very skilful player, that he played against."
TOUGH TO STEP IN THAT EARLY
"Coming into a game after five or six minutes is difficult in that position. I also think it maybe makes the first half a little bit more difficult too because you have to change. It switches a lot in how we prepare the game in positions. I think we found that a little bit, which means that the first half is quite a close game, but they have a little bit better chances."
VERY IMPRESSIVE
"Then the players turn it around in the second half and that is an unbelievable performance. But I agree, to do that from the bench coming in, in a position that is tricky, is very impressive. To face a player that has that quickness and being in the last line defending the space behind, it means that you have to prepare a different way than being in midfield where you have always maybe defenders behind you, which means you don't have to be so aware of the space behind. I think that position in the game, how he did that, was very, very impressive."
