Two Sunderland players have been nominated for the Premier League Player of the Month award for September.
Sunderland's captain, Xhaka, has enjoyed a stunning return to the Premier League. The now 33-year-old has already registered three assists (two in the month of September) and has proven himself to be a vital asset in our midfield. He plays with grit, combativeness and defensive solidity, adding valuable experience to this exciting young squad. The cushioned header to set up Wilson Isidor was perhaps the most prominent example of what a player of such high quality can bring to a team.
Roefs has single-handedly kept us in games and won us important points, even at this early stage. His penalty save against Brentford, an immense clean sheet at high-flying Palace, some crucial saves at Forest. He's 22 but plays like he's 32, with his calming presence and quick decision-making. Roefs' ability to come and claim the ball under pressure is almost as impressive as his shot-stopping at times. He made 15 saves in September, the second-most of all Premier League goalkeepers.
The two Sunderland players have received nominations alongside Erling Haaland, Daichi Kamada, Yankuba Minteh and Martin Zubimendi.
