Thomas Meunier gave a frank and honest assessment of today's game following our defeat at Portman Road.

SURPRISED BY THE PERFORMANCE

“Very disappointed. If I was to speak honestly I didn’t expect this at all. Most of the time you always play on a weekend how you train during the week, but we trained really well during the week and didn’t play well today. I don’t know what to think. After Nilson’s free kick I thought we were going back on track, we had a few good actions and a few good moves, more impact. I really thought we would make the difference. But at the end, maybe it’s new for me, it’s the Premier League and you don’t know what to expect. You cannot underestimate anyone. The first game, I hoped for something better but unfortunately it wasn’t the case today.”

CHANCE CREATION LACKED

“Did we have a lot of chances? I don’t think so. For me, we have to create many, many more chances with the players we have. Sometimes we were lacking in infiltration. We cannot say that we played really bad, because that’s not true, we had some really good moments and periods in the game, but at the end we had maybe two or three good chances. We were dangerous, but not as dangerous as we have to be to score a goal. We saw that Ipswich were playing more simple and more basic, and they were quite efficient in the end. In the second half we were lucky to keep it 1-1 until the end of the game and finally we killed ourselves today. Two big mistakes and the reaction was missing. I hope that today was just an off day and next week against Fulham we will show another face.”

ONTO FULHAM

“Anything can happen. At the end of the day it is football, it’s not an exact science but at home, our first home game of the season, we need to show something else. Okay, maybe we were good and it wasn’t enough, so we have to be very good to be sure we get three points next Sunday.”
