LE BRIS ASSESSES DEFEAT

Regis Le Bris gave his thoughts on Sunderland's disappointing defeat on Saturday, explained why Lutsharel Geertruida was left on the bench and also gave a brief update on Dan Neil's future after the midfielder was left out of the squad to face West Ham.

THESE THINGS HAPPEN

"I think it's not unusual for a promoted side to live this kind of situation. It's probably our second or maybe third time this season. We suffered in Manchester United, for example, in Brentford. Away from home, it's always tougher and West Ham are good. Even if they struggle in this league, they are well-organised."

NO EXCUSES

"They have a good team, good players, they can make a difference and when you are not at this level, you feel that it's different. Just accept the defeat as it is. Don't search for excuses because it should be too easy to say that Granit wasn't here with us - it explains our defeat. I don't think so. Experience the situation, accept the defeat, analyse deeply and learn. Work hard to get better for the next game."

GEERTRUIDA UNUSED SUB

"Yes, it's just a question of thinking. We have many options on the bench. Depending on the situation, I can feel the profile and what suits the situation. I trust Lucha and I trust Luke. It was a choice on the bench, a tactical choice. I don't have any preferences, I just want to win, to fight with this squad and to find the best solution. Sometimes I can't find the best solution, sometimes I make a mistake as a coach as well - it's possible. Everyone is involved and needs to accept the situation."

NEIL EXIT

"We don't know yet, there's nothing official. Something might happen in the next few days, we'll see."
