LATEST ON AFCON LADS

SAFC have given a mixed fitness update on the players who have returned to Wearside after a period of representing their countries in the African Cup of Nations.

Arthur Masuaku and Bertrand Traore have both picked up injuries while away on international duty, and are set to be out of action for four to six weeks each. Traore is said to have picked up a knee injury while playing for Burkina Faso, whilst Masuaku sustained an ankle injury with DR Congo.

In more positive news, Reinildo and Noah Sadiki are fit to play against Crystal Palace on Saturday. Sadiki played the full match against Everton, including extra time, and just doesn't seem to run out of steam. Reinildo is a bit older and has suffered big injuries in his career, so probably just needed that extra recovery time. Following Mozambique's AFCON exit, the defender also announced his retirement from international football in an emotional statement. The pair will both be available for selection at the weekend.

Chemsdine Talbi and Habib Diarra continue to be involved at AFCON, with Morocco and Senegal set to face each other in Sunday’s final in Rabat. However, Diarra will miss out due to suspension after being booked in the semi-final whilst Talbi has only made one appearance off the bench through the whole competiton.
