Hannah Greenwood joins the Lasses in red and white on a free transfer from Newcastle.
Signing a one-year-deal on Wearside, Hannah ‘can’t wait to get going’ with the season, in hopes that promotion is on the way for Sunderland.
Being a free agent, the midfielder spent some time on trial at Sunderland and has managed to earn herself a deal with the Black Cats.
Mel Reay said: ‘Hannah really impressed us following the trial period… she has some great attributes that will really benefit the squad and I’m sure she will make a really positive contribution to the team in the upcoming season’.
Before joining the Mags, Greenwood spent her early years of football playing for Durham, in her hometown, where she played a total of 505 minutes for the club. She then decided to join Newcastle from 2023.
Coming from a rival club, the 26-year-old had played 48 times for Newcastle and scored five goals in that time. She was one of 12 players leaving the club at the end of the 24/25 season after spending two seasons at the club and rejecting a new contract offer.
Following up, Hannah’s trial at SAFC has given Mel Reay a chance to get an overview on how she plays and to decide if she would make good contributions to the team. Participating in training has also given the player a chance to gain a sense of how competitive it is in and around the team.
On joining Sunderland, she said: ‘my teammates have been amazing, and I can’t wait to get to know them more. I’m really excited to be here, and I just can’t wait to get going’.
