GOALS WIN GAMES
While we pushed a very impressive Arsenal all the way on Saturday, our lack of goals is becoming a growing concern.
Brian Brobbey won plaudits for a typically combative display but he doesn’t score enough goals. Similarly, Wilson Isidor, restricted to bit-parts this season, is struggling to find form and the back of the net. Le Bris tried playing Isidor alongside Brobbey again, briefly, with limited effect.
While the transfer window saw us bringing in some potentially exciting signings, it was disappointing to see no proven goalscorer added to the squad.
I was surprised to see Chemsdine Talbi nearly move. Talbi, a fan favourite, is quick, young and talented and scored key goals last season against Chelsea (famously linking up with Brobbey) and Newcastle. He proved his finishing quality again with a brilliant goal against Hull in the Carabao Cup. While Le Bris appears reluctant to play him, in the absence of a better alternative he could do worse than try him as a number 10 behind Brobbey.
There has been a lot of utter nonsense from so-called experts about us getting relegated this season, but our lack of goals will make matching last season’s heroics while battling on four fronts a tough ask.
