BORN OTD: RADE PRICA

On this day in 1980, Swedish striker Rade Prica was born. He played just six games in the year that he spent on Wearside. Do you remember him?

Born in Ljungby, the Swede came through at his hometown club in 1995. He scored 14 in 37 games for Ljungby before joining Helsingborg in 1998. After five seasons there he moved over to Germany with Hansa Rostick where he struggled with just 20 goals in 118 appearances between 2002 and 2006. He returned to Scandinavia with AaB Aalborg in Denmark where he caught the attention of Sunderland.

After scoring 28 in 48 across two seasons, Prica made the move to England for £2 million on a three-and-a-half-year deal to play under Roy Keane. He got off to the perfect start with a goal on debut against Birmingham City at the SoL. He actually had the ball in the back of the net twice but one was ruled out for handball. However, Prica’s Sunderland career peaked there as that would be his only goal for the Black Cats and he would go onto play just five more games before being moved on in March 2009.

He was infamously subbed on and then taken off at Anfield. After replacing Kieran Richardson seven minutes in he was then hooked after 56 minutes which pretty much summed up his time at the club.

He joined Norwegian outfit Rosenberg, scoring double figures in every season before leaving for Maccabi Tel-Aviv in 2012. He would go onto play for Helsingborg, Maccabi Petah Tikva and Landskrona BoIS as well as make 14 appearances for Sweden with two goals before retiring in 2016.
