OTD: ANDY MELVILLE BORN
Born on this day is former Sunderland defender Andy Melville. Melville, born in Swansea in 1968, was one of Sunderland's players involved in the infamous car crash in pre-season. The Welshman, who started out as midfielder, but soon became known for his defensive attributes, would go on to make 213 appearances for Swansea. Born on this day in 1965 is former Sunderland forward David Kelly. The Birmingham born forward signed for the lads in September 1995 for fee of £900,000. Kelly was signed by Sunderland after an impressive 1994/95 season in which he scored 22 goals in 54 appearances for Graham Taylor’s Wolves.
