RUSYN LEAVES

It's been confirmed that Nazariy Rusyn has left Sunderland to join Croatian outfit Hajduk Split.

The Ukrainian arrived at Sunderland in September 2023 after a prolonged transfer from his home country, but took until New Year's Day 2024 to score his first goal which came in a 2-0 win against Preston North End.

Rusyn's only other Sunderland goal was an important late equaliser against Boro. However, the 26-year-old was never able to solidify a place in the lineup and fell even further out of favour this season following the appointment of Regis Le Bris. With Eliezer Mayenda and Wilson Isidor preferred in attack, Rusyn did not start a Championship match in 2024/25 and made just eight cameos off the bench.

His move to Croatia is an initial loan, with the option to make the deal permanent at the end of the season. Hopefully he can find his goalscoring form and rekindle his career abroad. Thanks for everything Naz, we'll always remember Boro away!

Kristjaan Speakman said: “We wanted to find the right opening in this window for Nazariy to play more minutes and Hajduk represents a great opportunity for him. The combination of playing style and a Club competing for a league title provides the perfect foundation for him at this moment in time and we wish him well for the remainder of the season.”
