Former Sunderland goalkeeper Robbin Ruiter has spoken to ALS about his countryman and fellow shot-stopper, Robin Roefs, ahead of a potential move to the Stadium of Light...
FAMILIAR WITH ROEFS
"I know him from the Dutch league and I’m working at the Dutch National Federation at the moment where he’s playing for our under-21s. So, I do know some things from his goalkeeper coach at the Dutch Federation."
BIGGEST STRENGTHS
"From what I’ve seen and heard, he is a big talent. He is very calm and composed, he can play football with his feet as well. Overall I think he’s a big talent who can develop way more in the future. I think it’s a good move from Sunderland to get him."
UPGRADE ON PATTO?
"I’m not sure if he’s better than Patto at the moment because I think Anthony Patterson is a great goalkeeper as well. He’s still very young with a lot of experience over the last few years in several leagues in England. From what I’ve experienced, the way football is played in England is way different to over in Holland."
LONG-TERM THINKING
"You need to give Robin some time to adjust to the Premier League I think, but from my perspective it is a very positive move from Sunderland to get him. I mean, he still needs to show it, but I think he’s only played for a year and a half in Nijmegen. He’s still very young for a goalkeeper but I like that he’s really calm. That’s always good for the defence. So, we will see."
