Sunderland lost at home in the Championship for the first time this season after an utterly dull performance in which nobody particularly flattered themselves. An own goal from Anthony Patterson within the opening twenty minutes gave the away team all three points.
ANTHONY PATTERSON: 3.5/10
Scored an own goal after some poor goalkeeping and nearly caused another goal with an error a few minutes later, the man couldn’t command his box today. He’s attempting it less, but when he does try to play it long it’s still not finding our players. Made one decent save in the second half to avoid being caught out from a cross.
TRAI HUME: 6.5/10
Defensively he was ok but going forward it just never really came off for him, his crossing wasn’t too bad just nobody really managed to get on the end of them.
DAN BALLARD: 7.5/10
Our man of the match in my opinion, hardly put a foot wrong and got us out of a couple of situations that could have easily become more dangerous. I probably would have gone higher with his rating had it not been for him coming off injured after 50 minutes.
LUKE O’NIEN: 6/10
He wasn’t bad either for the vast majority of the game, although he did give the corner away that we conceded from . I just don’t think he was urgent enough in the second half to warrant a higher rating.
DENNIS CIRKIN: 5.5/10
He struggled to link up with Le Fée effectively in the first half and in general didn’t help a great amount when we were attacking. There’s not much to complain about with his defensive work but his work rate was never high.
JOBE BELLINGHAM: 4/10
Missed a couple of opportunities to get a shot away from decent positions and struggled to cope with his midfield opponents for a lot of the match.
DAN NEIL: 4/10
He didn’t really show up today and he produced very little as a result of that. Made a ridiculously poor pass late on and also struggled to deal with their players.
PATRICK ROBERTS: 6.5/10
Drew a lot of fouls and had a few decent runs forward, once again there was no end product from him however a couple of his passes should have been used better by his teammates.
CHRIS RIGG: 5.5/10
I think he was the best of our midfield today, that bar is very low though. Clearly he’s exhausted and needs a rest, certainly why he was brought off an hour in.
ENZO LE FÉE: 6/10
Similar to Roberts, a few decent dribbles and we should have produced more from what he contributed. It wasn’t exactly a brilliant performance from him though, he only had the chance to do anything in the first half however.
WILSON ISIDOR: 4.5/10
He was just totally anonymous for the entirety of the game and wherever he did get a shot away they were awful. Isidor just couldn’t cope with their physicality, but it didn’t look like he wanted to to be totally honest.
SUBS:
ROMAINE MUNDLE: 6.5/10
Good to see him back and he looked bright, we really should have capitalised on one of his crosses though.
CHRIS MEPHAM: 6/10
Had very little to do and was just pretty average. Like O’Nien, he wasn’t very urgent as the minutes ticked away.
ELIEZER MAYENDA: 6.5/10
His work rate was decent but he didn’t threaten individually on many occasions.
