BORN ON THIS DAY: EDOUARD MICHUT

Edouard Michut was born on this day in 2003, in Aix-les-Bains, France. The midfielder spent a season on loan at Sunderland from Paris Saint-Germain but chose not to return to the club when the campaign ended.

Michut began his youth career at FC Le Chesnay 78, he played there for two years before he moved to Versailles. Michut stayed there until he got his big move to the PSG academy in 2015. Many people in France labelled him as “the new Veratti”, so he was already being compared to top class players.

Michut signed his first professional contact at the Parc des Princes in 2020, with the deal lasting until 2023. The midfielder made his senior debut for the French giants on the 27th February 2021, in a 4-0 win over Dijon. Michut then signed a new deal with PSG which was due to end in 2025.

However, the youngster was struggling for game time at PSG and in 2021 Michut was sent back to train with the under 19s squad. Michut only participated in five senior matches in the 21/22 campaign, however he made enough appearances to receive a Ligue 1 winners medal. A good moment for any player. There was even a video that surfaced of some banter between him and Kylian Mbappe, where the French superstar gave him a comical award that described him as being the loser of training.

On the 6th July 2022, a meeting was scheduled at the Camp des Loges between Michut and Luís Campo, to discuss the player's future at the club. However, Michut did not show up to the meeting. Michut then received a warning due to his behaviour, and he was not listed in PSG’s squad for the start of preseason.

Sunderland completed a loan move for Edouard Michut on the 31st August 2022, with the deal having a five million pound buy out clause. His Sunderland career took a little while to get going, he made four appearances off the bench in October but then he was kept out of the team with a leg injury until the very end of December. After this though, he became a regular feature in the side. He was being handed starts in most of our games, up until the last few matches anyway and was usually used off the bench if he wasn't in the starting XI. Michut's only goal for Sunderland came against Sheffield United at home in a 2-1 defeat and his final appearance as a Sunderland player came in the second leg of the playoffs at Luton Town as a substitute.

When the season ended he was offered the chance to come to Wearside permanently, however he opted not to do so. He stated in an interview that the reasons he decided to return to PSG were because of disagreements with the club over what was in the contract and him not believing that the game plan suited his style of play.

In September 2023, the Frenchman was sent out on loan to Turkish side Adana Demirspor, where he managed 25 games, scoring once and assisting twice. His adopted side then opted to make the arrangement a permanent one in the summer of 2024 but he would go on to make just a further two appearances for them prior to making a switch to the Netherlands and Fortuna Sittard, where he currently plays his football.
