In a late deadline day deal, Shrewsbury Town have confirmed the signing of defender Tom Flanagan from Sunderland on a two-and-a-half year deal.
Flanagan arrives in Shrewsbury having played regularly this season, racking up 25 appearances. The departure leaves Sunderland short on defensive numbers, with Danny Batth the only centre back to arrive this January.
After an impressive start to the season, Flanagan's form has dipped and he always looked like making a mistake. In total, the defender made over 120 appearances for the Lads, scoring five times.
Kristjaan Speakman said: "“Tom has played his part this season to ensure we head into the remainder of the campaign competing at the top end of the division, but his contract expires in the summer and this move represents a great opportunity for him to secure his long-term future. He has led by example throughout his time at the club and we wish him well in the next chapter of his career.”
