ZAK JOHNSON NEW DEAL


Sunderland defender Zak Johnson has signed a new contract, keeping him at the club until summer 2026.


The 18-year-old has been at the Academy since eight years old, and progressed through each age group successfully.


His senior debut came in the 2021 Papa John's Trophy against Manchester United. At 16 years and 141 days old, it was a 50-year-old outfield Wearside record at the time. He was part of the squad which travelled to the US for this summer’s pre-season tour, and made his first senior start against Crewe in the Carabao Cup last month.


Johnson said: “I am delighted to extend my stay here at Sunderland. This is my home, and it has been for over 10 years now. I’d like to thank all my teammates and all the coaches that have helped me develop into the player I am today. There is a still a long way to go, but I know this is the right place for me to cont
