This Saturday Sunderland will host Bristol City at the Stadium of Light. The meeting will be the 48th meeting between the two clubs. This is how I think it will go.
BRISTOL CITY
It’s been a very mixed season so far for Nigel Pearson’s Robins. They currently sit 16th in the table having picked up 40 points from 31 games. I think Bristol City fans would have wanted a bit more at the start of the season. However, they are currently on a seven game unbeaten run, granted four of those games have been draws. Nahki Wells is currently their top scorer, with the Bermudian international securing 9 goals and 4 assists so far this season. Young players such as Tommy Conway and Alex Scott have also stepped up this season.
Nigel Pearson is currently using the 4-2-3-1 formation, and that seems to be getting the Robins results. They have an average possession stat of 47.9%, which is fairly average. As a whole, I’d say Bristol City have a good balance of youth and experience, not to mention they have quite a few goal threats dotted around the pitch.
SUNDERLAND
It has been a fantastic week for Tony Mowbray’s red and white army, with the Lads picking up six points. A good result at the weekend was followed by a big 3-0 win at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium. Luke O’Nien scored his first Championship goal, and former QPR loanee Jack Clarke scored a brace.
Now the Lads look towards this weekend's clash with Bristol City, with Tony Mowbray hopeful that the Lads can put an end to Bristol City’s seven game unbeaten run.
MY PREDICTION
So, my prediction for this game is a 2-1 Sunderland win. I’m confident that we can keep the winning streak going. However, I wouldn’t be disappointed with a point. Bristol City will try and press us, and we will do the same. Judging by what happened at Ashton Gate, I think this game will be intense. Amad Diallo, and Joe Gelhardt will score for Sunderland, and Nahki Wells will score for Bristol City.
