PRE-HUDDERSFIELD THOUGHTS

After a disappointing loss away to Plymouth, we luckily have an opportunity to quickly redeem ourselves against relegation-fighting Huddersfield but I think some things need tweaking to make us more consistent.

THE ATTACK

Our issue with strikers continues to hinder us, we are on the cusp of December and none of them have found the back of the net and the constant feeling of them getting closer and the thought process being ‘he’ll score eventually’ (whilst definitely true) is starting to get a bit frustrating. Surely we have to change how we play. It’s often been said that we’ve learnt to play without strikers and now it feels like we are stubbornly refusing to unlearn that. Looking at our most recent game, Rusyn played for 45 minutes and had exactly two shots and Mayenda had only one with the same amount of time. That means out of our 24 shots in total (both on and off target) our strikers only carried out 12.5% of them and if we go back to the Swansea and Leicester games that percentage stands at a shocking 4% and 7.7% respectively. We didn’t score in any of those games, and based on those stats is it any wonder none of these players have found the back of the net once? That’s not to say they are blameless but surely getting the ball to them more often will result in a goal. That leads me to conclude that our wingers need to whip the ball into the box m
