Sunderland were simply pathetic in a 5-1 thrashing at Rotherham, in what was their worst ever defeat in third tier football. Here’s how the lads rated out of ten…
RON-THORBEN HOFFMAN (2/10): Wasn’t commanding his box well enough and that’s where most of Rotherham’s goals came from. Gave away a fifth goal stupidly as the game was already dead.
CARL WINCHESTER (3/10): Didn’t have a bad first half but wasn’t good enough when moved into midfield.
TOM FLANAGAN (3/10): Bullied by Rotherham’s target man Smith all day.
CALLUM DOYLE (3/10): Doyle kept his discipline defensively when a lot of his teammates lost their heads, but was still all over the place as we conceded five.
DENNIS CIRKIN (3/10): Just too weak in the tackle and struggled heavily against Rotherham’s wingers.
LUKE O’NIEN (3/10): Couldn’t impose himself on the midfield at all
DAN NEIL (3/10): Like O’Nien, Neil didn’t have enough presence in midfield and was particularly exposed when we went down to ten men.
AIDEN MCGEADY (1/10): Stupid from McGeady to get himself sent off. An experienced pro like himself should never be making that tackle while on a yellow, especially when we’re 3-1 down.
ELLIOT EMBLETON (2/10): Looked rusty on his return, shouldn’t have started.
LEON DAJAKU (2/10): Got into some decent positions but his decision making let him down today. Looked lost at times
ROSS STEWART (5/10): Had Sunderland’s two biggest chances, scoring a well-taken goal and hitting the post with a fierce effort.
SUBS
BAILEY WRIGHT (1/10): Had no impact at right back due to his lack of pace and no ability to keep up with play.
LYNDEN GOOCH (1/10): Another player who had no impact as we were embarrassed on the pitch.
CORRY EVANS (2/10): Even though we were down to ten men, Evans offered no defensive cover and even got himself a yellow card.
