I found it really interesting watching Dan Neil’s interview before the Birmingham game. Looking up at the picture of Jordan Henderson, full of admiration, saying that he wanted to be the next one who could go on to achieve the sort of momentous things that the current Liverpool player has achieved.
Out of all of the academy graduates from our club, I would argue that two of the most successful in recent times have been Jordan Pickford and the aforementioned Jordan Henderson.
Henderson made his league debut in a 5-0 away defeat to Chelsea. He then returned to Sunderland for the 09-10 season after a loan spell with Coventry; impressing in midfield, and subsequently winning Sunderland’s player of the year award. The following season, he was again voted as the Player of the Year, as well as being listed on the FIFA website as one of the 13 young talents to look out for.
