After a promising opening to the Black Cats pre-season, one thing stood out in our showing against Gateshead, and that was the need for another striker.
After Luis Semedo opened his account against South Shields, focus shifted to our second friendly of the day at the Gateshead International Stadium. Mowbray seemed to line up with Jewison Bennette up front with Alex Pritchard also playing part of the game there. ‘Jewi’ struggled to get into the game as a lone striker and Pritchard looked a lot more comfortable while playing in his midfield role.
With Ross Stewart expected to miss the start of the season, that leaves us a Semedo injury away from yet again being left without an out and out striker. Ukrainian youngster Timur Tutierov featured as did Max Thompson, so there are strikers in and around the squad and I’d imagine they will continue to play a part for the remainder of pre-s
