IN DEFENCE OF STEPHEN ROBINSON


A new name has entered the world of speculation surrounding who Sunderland will appoint to finally succeed Michael Beale after over 100 days lacking a permanent successor. The man rumoured to be on our list is the current manager of St Mirren, Stephen Robinson. Whilst he isn't well known or an exciting prospect like Will Still was, looking at his managerial career it’s not really been that bad and him becoming our new head coach wouldn’t be a disaster. In fact, given his experience level, he’s a safer bet than some of the men who’ve been on our list since the season ended.


He’s held four managerial jobs since retiring as a player in 2008 and the former Northern Ireland international has some impressive achievements behind him despite not winning a trophy yet as a boss.


In his current spell in charge of St Mirren he’s overseen them to two top half finishes in a row and in the most recent season they finished in their highest position since 1985. At
