Lee Johnson met the press ahead of our second visit to the Stadium MK this week. Another win and another clean sheet would be a nice return…
ON WILL GRIGG
Johnson said: “You can’t play against your parent club unless given written permission – which we obviously wouldn’t give."
FITNESS OF ROSS STEWART
"I want to be almost extra-careful with that one. It’s particularly because his game style is a real running game. What I don’t want is him to be sprinting or shutting down at 75 per cent because he’s worried about his hamstring. There’s a psychological element when you have a muscle injury, so we’ll build him up slowly. While the forwards are performing well, he won’t be involved this weekend. Tuesday (at Shrewsbury) is probably a bit early if I’m honest too, barring a disaster.”
ON CALLUM MCFADZEAN’S INJURY
Johnson said: “We’ve allowed him to rest off it. I think, more than likely, he’ll be unfit for tomorrow. We were contemplating him travelling just to give him that extra day, but to be fair, we’ve got at least three players who can play in that position. Flanno (Tom Flanagan) has obviously played there if you want to go with that bit more height, we’ve got Jake who we’ve just brought in, and then we’ve got Dion (Sanderson) who did extremely well when he played in that role at Northampton. I think the squad is in a decent place in terms of numbers, and that leaves me with decisions that are sometimes difficult, although it doesn’t feel that difficult with so many games. I think everybody has something to look forward to at the moment.”
MORE OF THE SAME
"In the last game, we implemented what we've worked at on the training pitch into the 90 minutes really well. Hopefully the same pattern will repeat, but of course, history has no bearing on this particular match. We have to play our game and earn control as much as possible, whether that be on or off the ball. [MK Dons] are very good on the ball, they're a very good side when they go a goal up, and the only thing we maybe could take from Tuesday is that we understand the flow of the opposition, just as they will us."
MK DON’S GAFFER RUSSELL MARTIN ON THE CLASH…
"I think the telling factor on Tuesday towards the end was the changes they made - there was obviously a difference in depth between the two squads. Tuesday should still give us positives, though. It's a different game in different circumstances, and the two teams will most likely be changed somewhat. There's no doubt that it will be a really tough game - they're going to be right up there. With the players they have at this level and the demand of the club, you have to consider them massive challengers, and they have a manager who has really embraced that."
