Takeover Confirmed
Updated: Jul 20

Following press reports in recent days linking the club with a potential takeover, sources close to the club have confirmed to A Love Supreme that a takeover is progressing quickly and that US based investors Glenn Fuhrman, John Phelan, Robert Platek and Michael Dell are set to take over SAFC.
Michael Dell will be a passive investor supporting his business partners, who will be more heavily involved at boardroom level. A quick Google search confirms that collectively the wealth that the four Americans have makes them one of the richest forces in British football.
They have been looking at the possible acquisition of an English football club for some time as part of a wider sports investment strategy and have decided Sunderland is the club for them after meetings arranged via a US football industry contact of Charlie Methven.
The club source said that “the board have been very open about looking to attract investment in the future, but they could see this was too good an opportunity for the club to miss.”
The deal, which is understood to be around £40m, will see the consortium acquire the majority of the club with Donald and Methven remaining on the board.
The process has been going on for a couple of months and it's "hoped the legal aspects, EFL etc will be sorted out in the next couple of weeks.”
