Post Heerenveen

Sunderland ended their pre-season with 1-0 defeat against to Heerenveen at the Stadium of Light on Saturday night. Duncan Watmore, Charlie Wyke, Aiden McGeady and Chris Maguire were all missing, so Jack Ross gave an injury update ahead of our behind closed doors game on Monday against Hartlepool: “Chris hopefully will play Monday. We will see how he is over the weekend. Aiden, we are hoping to start building up his pre-season by playing that game. Duncan, I’m not sure. Charlie, no. We have got ones who are a little bit behind but we will see how they are over the course of the week. With Charlie it is his ankle, it has troubled him in pre-season but he has done a lot in pre-season. We need to get to the bottom of it. Not sure how long yet, I don’t think a significant period of time. Duncan had a tight thigh. I hoped he would be able to play, he has been in good form. It just tightened up a little bit and didn’t want to take chances. It’s doubtful he will play Monday but hopefully he might train as the week goes on.”

Jack Ross also discussed Bryan Oviedo’s move to Club Bruges afterwards, although he was keen not to mention Bruges by name, so we have! “Bryan, the club [where he is going] is irrelevant, it’s about an agreement between the club and him and then we will see,’’ he said. “Until then, and I’ve avoided commenting too much, we won’t say anything yet. I think we are in relatively good health at the moment and if and when Bryan goes we may be a bit light on that side of the pitch, but overall we are happy with what we have done so far. Having all fit and healthy would give us lots of options out there.’’
