Dobson in Jacky Whites

Walsall boss Darrell Clarke confirmed Sunderland have had a bid accepted for George Dobson. He said: “A fee has been agreed with a particular club. I’m not going to mention the club because it is not over the line yet. We’ll see how things develop.”

The midfielder will travel to the North East today to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical in the time to be unveiled before the weekend. The fact that we’ve agreed a fee means that we will have spent some money for the first time this summer. Sunderland’s previous four signings this summer have all been free transfers or loans.

Meanwhile, Bryan Oviedo is due back in training after an extended holiday and with a few European clubs interested in him Jack Ross will be keen to move him on to reduce the wage bill. The Costa Rican is on £2m a year, as was Lee Cattermole, and our wage bill is capped at £11m, so despite the fact that he’s a good player, getting rid of him and maybe getting a fee would make good business sense.
