Key Fixtures Rundown

Key Fixtures Rundown

August 3, Oxford United (H): Starting the season against Oxford isn’t exactly a thriller. We struggled as they frustrated us at the SOL last year, so it isn’t an ideal game to kick off.

August 10, Ipswich Town (A): The first away game of the season is a surprisingly long trip to East Anglia and Portman Road. The stadium’s 30,000 capacity will most likely be filled as it is their first home game; two big attendances in a row for Sunderland. Hopefully we’re able to cope with the pressure and come out on top of the battle.

August 17, Portsmouth (H): After Ipswich comes another giant in this division who we defeated in the play offs last year. We’ll go into this one with the belief we can beat them and hopefully the stadium is rocking.

December 21, Bury (A): We kick off the festive period with an away game to promoted Bury. They’ll hopefully be out of their depth in League One, so shouldn’t be too tricky to beat.

December 26, Bolton Wanderers (H): Boxing Day sees us at home to Bolton, one of the hardest teams in the league to predict. Donald and co will be promoting this one heavily so the ground will be full once more.

December 29, Doncaster Rovers (A): Rovers will be aiming for promotion after playoff heartbreak so this game could be difficult, particularly with the fatigue of all the games piling up. Hopefully they’ll be without star striker John Marquis as we’ll have signed him.

January 1, Fleetwood Town (A): An away game to Joey Barton’s Fleetwood sees in the New Year. We’ll be looking to start the New Year with a win here.

February 1, Portsmouth (A): A tough away game at Pompey kicks off February, we could be walking the league by this time, dream on! With a large number of Championship teams circling their star players, they could be in trouble when facing us.

April 25: Accrington Stanley (H): The last home game of the season against Accrington Stanley, whoever they are. There should be a party atmosphere as we’ll have already wrapped up the league by this point.

May 3: Rotherham United (A): We close the season with an away game to Rotherham. Like Accrington there should be a party atmosphere as hundreds of Sunderland fans make the short trip to see us lift the League One trophy.
