There’s a current thread on RTG where someone has hashtaged our forthcoming New Year’s Day clash at Blackpool as #carnage in anticipation of thousands of SAFC new year revellers visiting the iconic, if a little run down in parts, English seaside resort.
For those of a certain vintage Blackpool away in the old third division will take some beating in the mayhem away day stakes!
Thousands of Mackems enjoyed a 2-0 win that included a police escort from the Manchester pub on the seafront and a pitch invasion at the end towards the goading Blackpool fans who soon retreated when confronted by the Pink Panther, Fred Flinstone, Elvis Presley and a Dalek!
Some newspapers next day talked of Sunderland hooligans and a near riot when it was mainly hundreds of mad Mackems on the hoy and having a laugh. Hundreds stayed over on the night too. Happy Days.
