Bits and Bobs

Saturday’s abandoned game at Accrington saw Sunderland slip to third in the league, six points behind leaders Portsmouth, but Jack Ross reckons we can only concentrate on our own business and win our games in hand and those against the other teams at the top. He explained: “As I said on Thursday, the only thing that we can ever affect is what we do. If we can continue to do it in the manner that we have done this season, and the points we’ve gathered in relation to the games, we’ll be OK regardless. It doesn’t bother me too much, it’s about what we do.

Ross also commented on our Checkatrade Trophy draw against Newcastle U21s. “As I said previously, not just Newcastle, I don’t think any U21 side is an ideal draw for a senior team,” Ross said. “I mentioned that in Scotland we had it with the colt’s teams. But it is what it is. We’ve treated the competition properly and we will do the same, we want to progress in it.”
