Jack Loves Chris

Updated: Jul 31, 2023

Jack Ross has been bigging up Chris Maguire and he reckons that the forward will be a big hit with the Sunderland faithful once he settles in. “Chris had a disappointing season last year in terms of how Bury performed as a team, but he’s played in England since 2011 and he’s had successful periods at different clubs. When I first spoke to him, and after he came here to have a look around, he was desperate to come because he will tell you this is the biggest club he’s played for. He’s got a cockiness about him but in a good way, and he’s got a bit about him. He’s a really good boy but he comes here with a belief in his own abilities and a desire to make the most of this opportunity, so I’m pleased he’s aboard because he has proven quality. We’re trying to recruit various aspects across the squad, there’s a hunger a side to it and you have to have the ability deal with the expectations of the club. I know how hard he works off the ball, which is a big part of the way I play, and he has proven quality in the final third in terms of goals and assists. I think he’s one supporters will take to and he’s really excited about coming here.” In other transfer news, that will probably not happen, but which keeps that media busy in June, we’ve once again been linked to Shrewsbury’s Jon Nolan and Toto Nsiala, but Shrewsbury boss John Askey has poured cold water on those deals. He said: “No we haven’t (received any offers). Not that I’ve heard or been aware of – thankfully not. I believe they’ll be here at the start of the season. I’ve not heard anything from agents or other clubs. I’d be surprised if they went.”

We’ve also been linked with Gavin Reilly who netted 22 times at Jack Ross’ St Mirren last season and Wahbi Khazri is edging towards a deal with Saint-Etienne, which would free some cash up to bring more players in. We are also said to be closing in on Burton Albion centre half Tom Flanagan
