SAFC PLACE CORONAVIRUS TRAVEL BAN ON PLAYERS

Phil Parkinson has banned his players from leaving the country later this month, during the gap in fixtures created by Bury FC’s withdrawal from League One, because of the coronavirus.

Parkinson said: “The break comes after our game with Blackpool when we were due to play Bury and possibly the Southend game. We’ve told the lads they can’t go abroad. Some of them want to go away but we don’t think it is wise for anyone to go abroad. That’s a decision we’ve made as a club. We’ve all accepted that. Some were planning to go away, but we’ve given ourselves every chance of keeping the virus away from Sunderland AFC.”

In other news, Bali Mumba has joined South Shields on loan until the end of the season. South Shields joint manager Graham Fenton said: “We're delighted to have someone of Bali's calibre joining us for the final push in the league season. He is very highly-regarded at Sunderland, having been regularly involved in the first-team squad over the last two years, and we'd like to thank all the members of staff at Sunderland who have enabled this to happen. Bali will give us undoubted real quality and athleticism, and I'm sure he will gain massively from the experience with us across the two-month period. We're looking forward to getting him started."
