Giving Youth A Chance

SAFC academy forward Connor Shields has stated his desire to break into Jack Ross' team this coming season after impressing for the under 23s. The young Scot rates his chances of seeing some first team action after claiming that the new gaffer had a history of promoting youngsters whilst at St Mirren: “The move has been brilliant," explained Connor. “The first couple of months were about settling in and getting used to training every day with the higher demands. It’s been a good challenge, but I played every 23s game after joining. Hopefully I can have a good pre-season and do well enough to get noticed by the first team. I never met Jack in Scotland. We’re due back in on June 25, but I’ve come down early and I’ll see if I can introduce myself, see what he expects, then go away and work at it. Jack did a brilliant job at St Mirren, so hopefully he can do the same thing at Sunderland. They’re a massive club. If he can get us playing the same kind of football St Mirren played he’ll get us back to the Championship and, hopefully, the Premier League. He gave young players a chance at St Mirren so hopefully he does the same.”

In other news, alleged SAFC target Florian Kamberi has decided against joining Sunderland and has instead signed for Hibs. The Edinburgh club triggered an option to buy the striker following his successful loan spell at Easter Road last season. The 23 year old made it clear he didn't want to play for Sunderland in a "small league" so elected to stay in the Scottish Premiership: "It went to the last few days but for me it was clear. I spoke to the gaffer (Neil Lennon) before and I knew he was staying so I was pleased to come back and work with him again, the club and my team-mates after this great season. I wanted to work with Neil Lennon because he makes me better every day. To be around him and my team-mates and this club makes me happy. I asked him if he was going to stay and when he said 'yes' I wanted to stay. Sunderland didn’t interest me. It was League One. Even if it’s a big club I don’t want to play in a small league. I want to play in the first league and I had an opportunity to do that here with Hibs, so it was clear to me that Sunderland was not an option."

Seat Switch Starts Soon...

After years of looking at, and plonking our arses on washed out pink seats the first day of operation "Seeing Red" will commence on Wednesday 11 July, with the initial phase of seats installed by Friday 20 July.

Fans wishing to come along and help the SAFC team can register their interest here.

Participants must be over 18 years of age and have a basic level of technical ability to do the job (ed - shite!), the club have released a video on the process here.

Let's just hope your seat isn't sorted by some knackerheed or you could find your arse hitting concrete come August.

Speaking about the scheme Steward Donald said: “There is a huge amount of work to be done throughout the club. Replacing the seats, and making the Stadium of Light somewhere we can all be proud of again, is just part of our project to work to restore this great club to what it should be. Encouraging fans to play their part in the seat replacement process is part of our policy of re-engaging with fans - these things may seem trivial to some, but as football fans ourselves Charlie and I know how important it is for supporters to have a sense of ownership of their club.”
