Everybody Loves Jack...

Stewart Donald has spoken of his delight at capturing one of the most promising young managers in the country. Jack Ross arrived on Wearside with a ever increasing reputation for getting the best out of his players and Donald was happy he chose to lead the revolution here at Sunderland: “Pretty much everybody I talk to in football has said you have to talk to Jack Ross before he goes somewhere else, he is potentially one of the brightest young managers in the country. If one or two people tell you that, you take it with a pinch of salt, but literally everybody since I have been at Sunderland has been telling me that. I became aware that we were likely to lose him, or not have the opportunity [to appoint him], so we moved very, very quickly for him and I’m delighted I’ve been able to persuade him to come.”

The owner believes Ross’ style of high-tempo play will reap dividends when the season kicks off in only Nine weeks time: “Jack will explain his playing his philosophy which might be a little bit different,” explained Donald. “He plays a very high-tempo game, a big press, he expects results in the final third – a cross, a shot, or a penetrating pass – so without putting too much pressure on him, I think he will bring a type of football that will really get the fans going. You have to let them get on with it and trust that you’ve got the right person.”

Meanwhile, after Jack Ross revealed yesterday he’ll be open to scouting up north for talent, Hibs midfielder John McGinn has warned that it would take something very special to tempt him away from Easter Road: “I still have a year to go at Hibs and I love it there,” said McGinn, who is currently on international duty with Scotland. “It will definitely need something really special to come along. The speculation is there because I have been playing well. I just have to deal with it. I am glad to be on the other side of the world, if I am honest. I am aware of what’s being said. I wake up to different speculation, but that’s something I cannot control. It’s good to get away from it.”
