who needs cantona? eh? pompey craic...
fresh from THE SOL

Name: Jim Bonner
Age (If you want): 22
How long you’ve supported the club: No fixed date really, first game I saw was a 2-0 loss to Norwich in 1998/99 if my bad memory serves me correctly. Iwan Roberts and Carl Tiler own goal won it for them I think….

What was your pre-match predictions for the game (honestly)?
I said 1-1 before the game because of our depleted squad and all the Redknapp rumours before it.

Was the 2-0 score line a fair result in your eyes?
No, you should have had more. A couple of dubious decisions saved us from what could have been an even more embarrassing result. On the other hand if Benjani had his shooting boots on we still might have won….

How much did the loss of your African players affect your performance?
More than I thought it would. Usually our midfield is so strong and powerful that it’s hard to take the ball from them. Our midfield were far too lightweight on Sunday.

What did you make of Kieran Richardson’s display? He seemed to cause you endless amounts of problems; do you think he has the ability to become a top quality player?
I’ve never rated Richardson that highly and don’t think he will ever make it to the top on an individual level, but he performed very well on Sunday so who knows?

To be honest I think we caused your back four a lot more problems than I would have thought, is your defence normally as shaky or was Sunday a one-off?
A one-off. Campbell and Distin had their worst games in a Pompey shirt and I doubt you will find them so easy to play against at Fratton Park.

What did you make of the Harry Redknapp to Newcastle story, would you have been glad or sad to see him go?
Sad for sure. Losing Harry would have been a huge blow to us that we may never have recovered from.

Do you think the uncertainty around his future affected the players on Sunday?
I thought it did, but that’s not really an excuse as the news that he was staying should have buoyed the players and they should have raised their game.

As you know both clubs were in for Dave Nugent during the summer, are you happy with the progress he has made since his arrival?
Not really as he hasn’t been given too many opportunities and he hasn’t really made himself noticed when playing against Premier League opposition.

We were linked with Matt Taylor, have you got any comments about that?
Pompey fans are resigned to losing him as he wants regular football but can’t get in the side. I think he would have been an excellent signing for Sunderland and he’d be an instant hit because of his commitment and his wondergoals, as you probably saw two seasons ago!

Pompey have one of, if not the best away record in the league, yet you’ve been pretty poor at home lately. What seems to be the problem down at Fratton Park?

Our system is set to counter-attack teams when they come at us, but teams sit back at Fratton Park and we just can’t seem to break them down.

Anyways are you optimistic for the rest of the season? Whereabouts do you think you’ll finish?
I said 8th at the start of the season and I’ll stick by that.

Who was your best player?
None of them, they were all shocking.

Who was your worst player?
As above, they should all be ashamed of themselves.

What did you think of Sunderland’s performance?
Good, although you still looked very nervous at times but that’s understandable given your position. If we had our full squad available then I think we might have beaten you.

Who was our best player?
Kieran Richardson or Kenwyne Jones. Richardson got the goals but Jones gave our defence a torrid time all game.

Who was our worst player?
Probably Danny Collins. Looked more nervous than the rest and I’m not convinced he’s good enough for the Premier League.

Where do you think we’ll finish this season?
I’ll be honest and say that I predicted 18 th for Sunderland at the start of the season and that you’d go down with Wigan and Derby. Fulham are in big trouble though and so I think 18 th will go to either Sunderland or Wigan….

Your predictions for:
Premier League: Manchester United
FA Cup: Chelsea
Carling Cup: Chelsea
Relegation: Sunderland (sorry lads!), Fulham and Derby

Please rate the following 1 to 10 (10 being the best):
Atmosphere:
7
Your fans: 7
Our fans: 7
Your team: 3
Our team: 7
Stadium of Light: 9

Who’d win in a fight? Harry Redknapp or Roy Keane? And why?
Harry Redknapp as no doubt he has a black belt in Muay Thai or something like that! Nah in honesty I think Keane would floor any manager in the Premier League…

Any other comments…
Despite my predictions, I hope Sunderland stay up. I love the Stadium of Light and the Sunderland fans are great to have banter with. Good luck for the rest of the season.

Thanks for your time
